Emotional numbness has accompanied me for over a decade. It functions like a thin membrane, sustaining the basic operation of the body—shielding it from overwhelming sorrow, while simultaneously blocking the joy that arises when emotions are able to truly flow. Granules cover the skin, forming a uniform surface. It neither hurts nor soothes; it simply persists.

The eyes are covered—whether vision remains open as a channel no longer matters. Sensation can neither enter nor exit this space; it is repeatedly ground down, reduced to a flat plane.

This work emerges from a desire to look back, to reach toward a self that has long remained in a state of emotional suspension, and to search for a visual form for experiences that, at the time, had not yet found language.
